About Me

WHAT IS ‘PULP CRITIC’?

Pulp Critic was started as an outlet for that inner nerd that needed somewhere to ramble about the latest happenings in the world of comic books, video games, and cinema.

Along with my long held interests in Japanese language, culture and Martial Arts, the decision to start Pulp Critic came after studying towards a Masters of Research in Classical Reception at Royal Holloway University. This allowed me the opportunity to bridge my interests in Classics with popular culture – which was a great excuse to spend time reading comics and watching films, under the guise of an academic paper. Here I will share my thoughts, experiences, and opinions about films, comic books, and video games, with recommendations and critical articles.

While I’m a fan of DC and Marvel, Image, Dark Horse, and Aftershock comics have been producing some of the most interesting titles recently, promoting new artists and writers, offering a diverse range of stories and art. As a gamer, I’m an RPG and horror fan, with favourites including Metroid Prime, Silent Hill 2, and the Shin Megami Tensei series. Likewise, my cinematic interests tend to include cult horror, fantasy, and science-fiction. And of course you can expect to see the odd superhero flying around, alongside old and new manga and anime, from Serial Experiments Laine and Ghost in the Shell, to Samurai Champloo and Rurouni Kenshin, Pluto and Kimetsu no Yaiba.
